Though most cataract surgeries can be performed under local or topical anesthesia, most retina, oculoplasty, and pediatric ophthalmology surgeries require general anesthesia. Because of this need, general anesthetics are administered on a daily basis. The Anesthesia Department has five consultants, and oversees the pre-operative evaluation of general anesthesia cases. Also we update our staff about the up-to-date methods of treating patients who develop cardiac difficulties before, during or after surgery.
